What a Day

November 29, 2016 by Eve Ilsen

Well, I did NOT shop during what I think of as "post-Thanksgiving-spending-spree-weekend".
But today was designated as the antidote:  "Giving Tuesday".
That works:  Tuesday was the day that G-d said twice that it was good.  It is good.  And there is so much need.
My emailbox was flooded with good causes needing money.
I approached it just like I make out checks to good causes at every Jewish holiday.  Except that these days, the current political outrageousness lends a sharp feeling of urgency.

The middle of the day I took a break, and met with a friend to discuss an idea I had for a concert, perhaps for a chorus.
Remember all those oh-good-grief-I'm-pregnant-and-he's nowhere-in-sight songs?  In every genre, from blues to old British ballads?  I thought we should do a full concert of those songs as a fundraiser for Planned Parenthood.
If you have any favorite songs of this sort, do send me titles/sheet music/lyrics---whatever you've got.
(I can't remember the names of the gruesome British ones where she drowns her twin newborns, etc.)

Mazal sleeps in Zalman's recliner to my left, Bracha on the blanket on the heating pad to my right.  Both purr lightly.
I am now going to close the laptop without checking email to see the latest post-election disaster-report; it will still be there in the morning, with all its brothers and sisters and cousins.

May we all have dreams that inspire and instruct us what to do next to preserve our beautiful planet and kind people.

  • Good night.
