Honestly, we seem to be tromping around in the mud.
A line from some country-Western sounding song that I heard back in the late '80's is becoming an ear-worm:
"Our politicians treat us all like mushrooms:
They feed us bull, and keep us in the dark..."
So I am considering going on a news-fast until Sunday. Might I regain some sanity? (Did I have a good enough supply to begin with?)
I was saved-into-distraction by a friend I ran into while on an errand; she derailed my intentions for this evening and invited me to the movies to see "Lady Bird" with her. High praise to Saoirse Ronan! Such a young actress, so skilled. (And thanks to my Irish riend who taught me how to pronounce her name.)
And this brings me to recommend: anything by Bernie DeKoven, for instance <https://vimeo.com/32496264> (Ooops, sorry: this site doesn't let me include links any more.)
Bernie is a master of play and playfulness, and playing with him and his wife Rocky resulted in Pirate Scrabble, which Zalman and I used to play on shabbos after lunch, using the phone book and playing cards to keep score. If anyone is interested, I will describe some other time the wild rules of Pirate Scrabble.
I need to close up and head to bed in time to get to 7 a.m. minyan tomorrow, my most regular shul attendance. I send blessings tonight for play, for creativity in all its forms, for surprises and the unexpected.
